Day 1

Travel through the hills of Pennsylvania on your way to New York for an overnight stay.

Day 2

Relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Enjoy a docent guided tour of Old Bennington, including the cemetery where Robert Frost is buried, the Bennington Battle Monument and the Bennington Museum, which has the largest collection of Grandma Moses. The quilt that inspires quilters all over the world will be on its yearly display at the Bennington Museum. The Jane Stickle Quilt is comprised of 169 five-inch blocks, each in different patterns, containing a remarkable total of 5,602 pieces surrounded by a unique scalloped border. Your next two nights* will be spent in Rutland/Killington, Vermont, with live entertainment one night.

Day 3

A local guide will start your day with a visit to the Coolidge Birthplace & Homestead, where our 30th President was born and raised. Visit the historical museum, carriage barn, general store, summer White House, church & Plymouth Cheese Factory. Enjoy time in the quaint, charming VT village of Woodstock. Visit an off-the-beaten path family Maple & Cheese Farm. Vermont's Little Grand Canyon, Quechee Gorge is a great photo stop.

Day 4

New Hampshire will be our destination today. Stop at the Bath Covered Bridge. Visit Chutters General Store, with the world's longest candy counter! At the Basin, you will take a short nature walk on a paved path to a natural rock water filled basin. Ride up the mountain on the Loon Mountain Gondola Ride, the longest sky ride in NH. Round out your day on board the Lake Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad for a delicious dinner while riding along the shores of this beautiful lake. You will overnight in Gilford, NH.

Day 5

Today's adventures will take you to Maine. Start with a tour of Kennebunkport. Learn about this popular summer resort, drive by the Bush's summer home and Sea Captain's mansions. Time to explore, dine, and browse the shops in Dock Square, downtown Kennebunkport. Enjoy a narrated 90-minute Lighthouse Lovers Cruise in Portland Harbor, seeing lighthouses, forts, lobster boats, seals, and seabirds. Four lighthouses can be seen up close with as many as seven in view during the cruise, including a close up view of Maine's oldest and most photographed lighthouse, Portland Head Light! Enjoy a Downeast Maine Lobster Bake tonight. You will stay in Portland, ME, for the next two nights.

Day 6

Tour Portland City today with a local guide. Learn about Portland's diverse history and architecture; the childhood home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow; the Victoria Mansion and the bustling Old Port are just a few of the landmarks you'll see as we travel from city streets to rocky coast. Stop for photos at Portland Head Light, Maine's oldest lighthouse. Time for dining, exploring, and shopping in Old Port, by the wharf and then it's off to L.L. Bean, Freeport, ME. A trip to Maine would not be the same without a visit to the world famous L.L. Bean!

Day 7

Depart for a scenic venture home. You will visit Albacore Park in New Hampshire and tour the USS ALBACORE AGSS-569, which holds a place in history as the first Navy-designed vessel with a true underwater hull of cylindrical shape that has become the standard for submarines of today. The afternoon will include a tour of the Boott Cotton Mills Museum in the Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts. Lowell was once a great industrial center of America and the Boott Cotton Mills were at the center of the Industrial Revolution. You will stay in Connecticut for the night.

Following breakfast, you will complete your journey back home to Pennsylvania.

Drop offs are NOT in reserve order. Order of drop offs will be Monroeville, Pittsburgh, Sewickley.

 

Walking Code: 3 - This tour includes moderate physical activity. The itinerary blends some longer days with shorter days and more leisure time. Walking tours, as well as walking slightly longer distances, up stairs or on uneven walking surfaces should be expected.
