Day 1

Today you travel through Pennsylvania and New York with an overnight in Meriden, CT



Day 2

A visit to Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH will start your day. Enjoy a guided tour of this premier Shaker site. Discover the purposeful way of life practiced by the Shakers at this historic community founded in the 1780's. Time to browse and shop at Kellerhaus for homemade ice-cream, candy, and fudge before heading to the Lake Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad. On this round trip train ride, you will view the summer cottages along Lake Winnipesaukee. Ride the rails while enjoying a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Your hotel for the next three nights will be in Plymouth, NH.

Day 3

Depart with local guide and tour through the White Mountains of New Hampshire - through Franconia Notch to Mount Washington. Steeped in history, the Mount Washington Cog Railway is your next train ride where you will be in for an unforgettable adventure. Magnificent scenery combined with a spectacular climb up the highest peak in the Northeast. Visit Clarks Trading Post in Lincoln, NH. Enjoy a trained bear show that demonstrates the intelligence and talents of the black bear. While there take the 30-minute steam train ride on the White Mountains Central Railroad, see the Chinese Acrobats act, visit Merlin's Mansion, Tuttle's Rustic House, and more.

Day 4

Drive along the very scenic Kancamagus Scenic Highway through the White Mountains. The 34 mile road which hugs the pristine cool waters of the Swift River provides breathtaking views from the scenic overlooks. All aboard the Notch Train on the Conway Scenic Rail Road. Travel on what was once the Maine Central Railroad's famed Mountain Division Line, on tracks that were laid in the 1870s. Enjoy some of the most dramatic natural scenery in the East as you travel through spectacular Crawford Notch - past sheer bluffs, steep ravines, cascading brooks and streams, panoramic mountain vistas, across Frankenstein Trestle, and Willey Brooke Bridge - in route to Crawford. Take a ride on the Loon Mountain Gondola, the longest sky ride in NH. Ride to the top of Loon Mountain for spectacular views of the White Mountains in Summer! This evening enjoy an exquisite four-course dinner on board the 1st Class Cafe Lafayette, operating as a Fine Dining Dinner Train excursion since 1989. Running on original timber line rails, the 20 mile trip brings you south along the Pemigewasset River Valley, towards Thornton.

Day 5

Start with a narrated cruise aboard the M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee from Weirs Beach to Wolfeboro. Time to dine, browse and shop in the charming village on the lake, in Wolfeboro, before starting your journey back home. Overnight in Meriden, CT.

Your compass will read southwest as you make you way back home with delightful memories of trains, boat, and bears.
